Katie, her long mutating journey

The Katie wallet has been the model that went through the most transformations since 2015.

All ReCreate pieces go through several stages, but Katie was definitely the one that adapted the most. Originally created to hold rolling tobacco, it has become the most versatile wallet in the collection, adapting to a wide range of daily uses. Thanks to its mid-size format, it can function as a document holder — including a passport — as a wallet for money, or even as a small notebook cover. Many of the changes came directly from customer feedback, with details added to improve usability and meet real everyday needs.

Over the years, ReCreate has grown closer to sustainability and the appreciation of handcrafted work. This journey is clearly reflected in the different labels applied throughout the evolution of the Katie wallet. Today, each label is stamped on small leftover pieces of canvas from the cutting process and individually numbered, reinforcing the unique identity of every piece produced.

Technical details that make all the difference

In the beginning, we used only the basket-weaving technique, giving the piece its distinctive texture. Later, we introduced the “paper-folding” technique. These technical transformations — in Katie and other models — resulted in lighter, stronger wallets.

Technical details have continued to evolve, allowing us to confidently say that ReCreate wallet can be used for up to 5 years without its structure changing. Industrial sewing, which wasn’t part of the process initially, replaced glue points. Reinforcements with manually applied hardware were added in areas of stress. After testing several materials for the closure system — including canvas, cork, synthetic leather and plant-based alternatives — leather offcuts have proven to be the most resistant option for repeated daily use.
