ReCreate developed, for Cofidis, a large-scale production project for Christmas hampers offered to employees. The challenge was to create 880 Sam wallets, all unique, numbered and handmade from reused advertising canvas.
This project required rigorous planning, time management and execution control, while maintaining the studio’s quality standards and identity, even at a high production volume.
Sam Wallet: consistency in a small object
The Sam wallet is a compact model designed for everyday use. Its simple yet precise construction allows for material variations without compromising function. In this project, each unit was designed to meet three essential requirements: durability, ergonomics and formal clarity.
Although the format is consistent, no two wallets are the same. Variations in colour, texture and graphic elements of the canvas ensure the uniqueness of each piece, reinforced by individual numbering, which guarantees traceability and a distinct identity.
Large-scale artisanal production
Producing 880 units by hand represented a significant technical and logistical challenge. Each wallet went through the same stages of cutting, assembly and finishing, with attention to detail and consistency in the final result.
The process required careful workflow organisation, prior material preparation and a thorough understanding of its characteristics. Working at scale did not mean compromising rigour; on the contrary, it reinforced the need for method and clearly defined design decisions.
Reuse with measurable impact
In this project, around 50 m² of material were reused and given a new function. This represents not only reuse, but objects with extended lifespans, integrated into the daily lives of hundreds of people.
By choosing reused materials, Cofidis incorporated into its Christmas hampers a functional, durable object aligned with a more conscious approach to design and production.
Design applied to the corporate context
Projects like this demonstrate how design can respond to corporate contexts without losing identity, quality or coherence. Through a structured process, ReCreate transforms existing materials into useful pieces, designed to circulate and remain relevant.
In this context, the Sam wallet functions as a real-use object, but also as an example of how design can bring together function, careful execution and material responsibility.
